Erosion and Sediment Control BMP Workshop

November 4, 2025 - Fairhope Civic Center

Join the City of Fairhope and state partners for a one day training about erosion and sediment control (ESC) best management practices outlined in the Alabama Blue Book (Alabama Handbook for Erosion, Sediment Control and Stormwater Management).

What to expect:

Morning presentations will cover the background of the Blue Book, the importance of ESC BMP’s on protecting natural resources, followed by a discussion on quality engineering, installation, and maintenance. Specific focus will be given to permitter controls, sediment barriers, sediment basins, and establishing proper vegetation. After lunch, we will have a site visit for some hands on BMP demonstrations and discussion. 
 

Objectives:

For local engineers, consultants, developers, contractors and municipal stormwater/enforcement officials to: 

  • Become familiar with the Alabama Handbook for Erosion, Sediment Control and Stormwater Management’s (Blue Book) history and application.
  • Increase understanding of the impact of erosion and sediment on natural resources.
  • Gather design knowledge regarding Alabama Blue Book Best Management Practices.
  • Gather inspection and maintenance knowledge required by the Alabama Blue Book
  • Learn about research on effectiveness of different BMPs.
